053: What to Do When Business Feels Overwhelming

Below, you’ll find the show notes for Episode 053 of The Made by Motherhood Podcast. The Made by Motherhood Podcast is a warm, encouraging space for moms building businesses while raising families — with gentle guidance for business, home, and motherhood. Subscribe on Spotify Podcasts, subscribe on Apple Podcasts, or subscribe anywhere podcasts are available.

If you’ve ever felt completely overwhelmed by your business — like your to-do list keeps growing, or like you’re carrying the weight of doing everything on your own — you’re not alone.

Every mom in business has likely had that moment, or maybe even a full season, where no matter how hard you work, you can’t quite catch up. That feeling can be heavy, especially when you care deeply about your work, your family, and doing things well.

In this week’s episode of the Made by Motherhood Podcast, we’re talking about gentle, practical ways to navigate those seasons — the ones where business feels like too much, and balance feels out of reach.

Redefining Success in Motherhood and Business

When I became a mom, I quickly realized that what used to work in my business didn’t fit my life anymore. Before motherhood, I said yes to everything, filled every hour, and believed that the more I did, the more successful I’d be.

But motherhood shifted everything. It taught me that success isn’t about doing more — it’s about doing what matters most.

If your business feels heavy right now, maybe it’s time to pause and redefine what success looks like for this season of your life. You’re not falling behind. You’re evolving.

Your energy, your capacity, and your priorities have changed — and that’s okay. You can build your business around your life, instead of trying to build your life around your business.

Small Shifts That Lead to More Peace

When everything feels like too much, try returning to what I call your core three.

Ask yourself:

  • What’s one thing I can do this week to move my business forward?
  • What’s one thing I can simplify or delegate?
  • And what’s one thing I can let go of completely, at least for now?

You don’t need to do everything — you just need to take one small, intentional step toward lighter days.

Sometimes that means deleting a task that doesn’t serve your goals.
Sometimes it’s deciding that “good enough” truly is enough.
And sometimes, it’s giving yourself permission to rest — to breathe — to remember that you’re a human first, and a business owner second.

You’re Not Meant to Do This Alone

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that overwhelm often grows when I try to do everything by myself. It’s easy to believe that you have to wear every hat, manage every detail, and never drop the ball — but business doesn’t have to be built in isolation.

Whether it’s asking for help with childcare, outsourcing a small task, or connecting with another mom who understands your season — support changes everything.

That’s part of why I created MadebyMotherhood.com — a space where moms in business can find resources, encouragement, and tools to make things feel a little lighter. You’ll find checklists, templates, and gentle guidance designed to help you simplify the systems that support your business, so you can spend more time actually living your life.

And if you’re looking for fresh inspiration or encouragement, visit KellyZugay.com for simple, realistic ideas on building a business that fits your real life — not the other way around.

A Gentle Reminder for Mom-Business Owners

If business has felt overwhelming lately, I want you to hear this:
You don’t have to do it all. You don’t have to be everything to everyone.
And you don’t have to prove your worth through productivity.

You can slow down and still move forward. You can rest and still be successful.
You can build something beautiful — one small, intentional step at a time.

You are made by motherhood — and you are made for a business that feels peaceful, purposeful, and perfectly your own.
