While Ben and I closed on our house in Minnesota in March, for a variety of reasons, we held off on planning our official move-in day. Now, spring has arrived, Ben and I are both fully vaccinated, and we both feel more comfortable than ever before to start our new chapter in Minnesota!
We decided to rent a U-Haul and move everything except our furniture to our new house.
A couple of my favorite parts from the day were:
- The beautiful spring weather we had. The drive to Minnesota was just so beautiful, and we really lucked out with a great moving day!
- Just being together! Building our house in Minnesota has been a really meaningful experience, so being together and being present was special.
In the end, what really helped our move-in day go smoothly was:
- We began packing weeks ago, little by little. We began with our basement (Do the worst first!) and then packed room by room. Being mostly-packed helped so much, because nearly everything had already been boxed up.
- We used color-coded Post-It notes. We labeled our boxes according to where they should go — office, living room, kitchen, storage — and that helped us to move quickly.
Part 2 of our move comes later on in the week! There’s a lot of work ahead, but I’m so excited for everything to come together!
