Designing a Functional Yet Cozy Entryway

The entryway of our house has been a blank canvas since building our home in 2021. These past couple of years have gone by so quickly, and over the years, we’ve weighed a variety of plans for our entryway — having a built-in with cabinets, mounting coat hooks, and a variety of plans in between. Now, I’m excited to say we’ve hired a professional to hang vertical paneling, which will lay the foundation for our entryway decorating process. Below is a peek at what we’re envisioning for our entryway:

Artwork — 1 and 2

One detail I’m excited to choose for our entryway is artwork. Ben and I both love nature and greenery, so I hope we can choose some really beautiful, nature-inspired artwork for our entryway. Throughout our home as a whole, we try to create a balance between photos of our family and artwork we love — and I really think our entryway will be the perfect place for beautiful artwork. For affordable yet high-quality artwork, I love shopping at Juniper Print Shop, Cove Prints, and Target! (Here, here, here, here, and here are a few of my favorite pieces from Target!)

Greenery — 3

Here, here, and here are a few of my favorite faux plants. We may choose to relocate one of our live plants to our entryway, but I definitely envision having some type of greenery in our entryway. If we do choose a faux plant, we could always explore rotating the plant seasonally, too!

Side Table — 4

I really love this side table from Studio McGee’s Target collection — as well as this one and this one. Our entryway is large, but not quite large enough to have seating and a console table. Because seating is our top priority, I think a side table will work best for the space we do have.

Market Bag — 5

I’ve discovered, whenever I pin on Pinterest, I’m drawn to entryways with market bags hanging in them. This shop has a variety of beautiful market bags, and I think they create a really beautiful texture while creating a lived-in yet clean aesthetic for an entryway.

Swivel Hooks — 6

Shopping for hooks ended up being the most complex part of designing our entryway, simply because there are so many choices. Ben had mentioned that, because our entryway wall is so long, the hooks we choose should be substantial and functional. He wanted swivel hooks rather than single hooks — and upon exploring the options here and here — I agree! I think these are the ones we will use!

Entryway Bench — 7

I absolutely love this bench from Target! It is currently out of stock, but I remain hopeful!

Accent Pillows — 8

Laurel and Blush is my favorite place for accent pillows, particularly because they have a Combinations feature where they showcase the accent pillow combinations they recommend. (I used one of their combinations for our living room sofa pillows.)

Floor Mirror — 9

When Studio McGee’s latest collection launched at Target, this mirror was what I woke up early to purchase. It is large enough to look balanced in our entry way, has a beautiful gold frame, and subtle arch detail.

Conclusion

I’m really excited to see everything take shape over the coming months! Our entryway is visible from my office and is a space I’d really like to feel complete — so I’m excited to create a cozy, welcoming, yet functional, space we love.
