There is something about spring that makes me want to open every window, wash every throw blanket, and finally deal with all the house projects I have been quietly ignoring since fall. Maybe it is the light coming back. Maybe it is the fresh start energy that seems to arrive right alongside the warmer temperatures. Whatever it is, I always feel it this time of year — that pull toward a home that feels lighter, calmer, and ready for a new season.
This spring, I am channeling that feeling into something I have been wanting to do for a while. I am calling it Breathing Room: 30 Spaces in 30 Days.
Think Of It As a Decluttering Challenge
Starting this spring, I will be tackling one space in my home every single day for 30 days and sharing the whole process in real time here on my blog and over on Instagram. Think of it as a daily decluttering challenge. We are talking drawers, closets, cabinets, countertops, and all those corners that usually collect clutter through the fall and winter seasons. Each day, I will walk through one manageable area, show you exactly what I am doing, and make it as easy as possible to follow along.
And if you want to do it with me — I would love that. I’ll be sending a daily email to go alongside the Instagram content, so you can get each day’s space delivered straight to your inbox. Think of it as a little nudge every morning, paired with a Reel or carousel to guide you through it visually.
Why I’m Hosting a Decluttering Challenge
I truly believe that an organized home changes how you feel as a mom. When your kitchen counter is clear, you move through your morning more calmly. When your entryway is organized, you leave the house without that low-grade stress of not being able to find things as quickly as you want to. The spaces we live in shape how we feel inside them, and I think that matters a lot.
At the same time, I know how overwhelming it can feel to look at your whole home and think about where to even start. A whole-house overhaul sounds exhausting. A free Saturday never seems to come. So instead of trying to do it all at once, we are going to do one small thing every day. That is it. That is the whole approach.
What You Will Need for the Decluttering Challenge
Before we dive in, a few things that will make the process so much smoother — and honestly, more enjoyable.
A donation box. Find one before we start and put it somewhere accessible. As we work through each space, anything leaving your home goes straight in. When it is full, it goes. Having a dedicated spot for donations makes the decision so much easier in the moment.
A few bins and baskets you love. I really do believe you are more likely to maintain an organized space when it looks beautiful. Having a few go-to baskets on hand — neutral, simple, something that feels good in your home — means that as we create new systems, everything has a place it actually wants to live. I’ve gathered my favorite baskets and bins here. (More generally, I usually choose from these.)
A label maker. A small investment that makes a genuinely big difference. Labeled spaces stay organized.
The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo. If you have not read it, now is a wonderful time. It is a quick read and it completely reframes the way you think about your belongings — not just where things go, but why you are holding onto them in the first place. It is the philosophy behind so much of what we will be doing together.
