Welcome back to the Made by Motherhood Podcast. I’m your host, Kelly Zugay — and today’s episode is a love note for anyone who’s been stuck in the scroll. If you’ve been looking around and wondering if you’re doing enough, fast enough, or big enough… this one’s for you.
Motherhood already comes with so much pressure — and when you add entrepreneurship on top of that? It can feel like everywhere you look, someone else is doing more.
More content.
More sales.
More launches.
More visibility.
And if you’ve been feeling that quiet sting of comparison, I want to remind you: you’re not alone. And there’s a gentler way forward.
The Pull of Comparison
If you’ve ever been rocking your baby, scrolling Instagram, and suddenly felt behind — this episode is for you.
If you’ve ever been proud of your own progress, only to see someone else post a six-figure launch or a perfectly curated Reel — this episode is for you.
And if you’ve ever whispered to yourself, “Why does it look so easy for her?” — this is for you, too.
Because behind every polished highlight is a real person with their own mess, their own sacrifices, and their own unseen story.
What we see online is never the full picture. And what we feel when we see it — the tightness in our chest, the creeping self-doubt — isn’t a reflection of our failure. It’s proof that we’re human.
The Truth About Your Pace
Here’s the truth I remind myself again and again: You are not behind.
Sometimes, we’re comparing our Year 1 to someone else’s Year 5. Sometimes we’re comparing a business built pre-kids to a business we’re building during nap times and late nights.
It’s not the same. And it was never meant to be.
Your pace is your power — because it’s honest. It’s sustainable. And it’s yours.
And here’s another truth: growth built slowly is often growth that lasts. It may not go viral, it may not look flashy — but it’s rooted. And rooted things grow strong, even if they grow quietly.
Three Gentle Reminders When Comparison Creeps In
Curate your input. If what you’re consuming makes you feel small or behind, it’s okay to mute, unfollow, or take a break. Protecting your peace is productive.
Come home to your why. Reconnect with the purpose behind what you’re building. Who are you building this for? What kind of life do you want for your family? What does success actually look like to you — not just what the internet says it should mean?
Focus on what’s working. Instead of only noticing what’s left undone, celebrate what you have done. The client you served with heart. The product you created during nap time. The email you sent, even if it wasn’t perfect. That’s progress.
Presence Over Perfection
It’s easy to believe faster is better, louder is better, more is better.
But what if presence is better?
What if peace is better?
What if being proud of yourself — for showing up in your way, in your season — is the truest definition of success?
You are not behind. You’re doing what so many people dream of: building something meaningful while raising someone beautiful. That’s not small. That’s everything.
Final Encouragement
If this episode gave you a little peace or perspective, I’d love for you to share it with a fellow mom who might need the same reminder. You are made by motherhood — and you were made to grow at your own pace, in your own way, for reasons that matter deeply to you.
