The holidays have come and gone — and January already seems to be flying by! I have been so excited to begin sharing new recipes, and then I realized… I skipped right over the holiday season!
Last month, Ben and I traveled home for the holidays. Because Ben is a Business Instructor, he has a full month off of school each winter. (We also decided to have a winter break of our own at With Grace and Gold, which was really wonderful!) Over winter break, I:
- Traveled to Chicago with Ben. Every year, we travel to Chicago to visit the Christkindlmarket. We love staying at Hyatt Place Chicago River North, because it’s in a really lovely area with lots of restaurants! (It also doesn’t hurt that there is a Starbucks one block away!) While in Chicago, we dined at Bohemian House, Ema, Beatrix, and Lyfe Kitchen — which has the best vegan menu in the whole wide world — and got to catch up with friends from Chicago, too! We visited Millennium Park, listened to carolers under The Bean — and even saw a proposal happen! It was really sweet!
- Celebrated Christmas with family. It was really wonderful to spend a cozy day in. Our baby nephew is simply the cutest, so he was definitely the highlight of our holiday!
- Celebrated my 29th birthday! I turned 29! On my birthday, Ben and I spent the day together! We also had dinner at Cafe Manna, which is one of my favorite places to eat when I’m in southeastern Wisconsin! (I’m starting to see my winter break revolved around food…) On another evening, we went to Comet Cafe in Milwaukee, where I had a delicious vegan walnut apple burger. Yum!
- Had a very low-key New Year’s Eve. My favorite New Year’s Eve tradition is watching Dick Clark’s Rockin’ Eve. It’s a really special tradition, but I’ll be honest: I barely stayed awake! By 12:02, I was asleep!
