Over the past few weeks, Ben and I have been working on updating our condo, little by little. Today, I’m excited to share an in-progress guest bedroom update!
We started by painting both our guest bedroom and master bedroom Delicate White by Pittsburgh Paints. Prior to being Delicate White both rooms were different shades of blue; our guest bedroom was a green-blue, and our master bedroom was a purple-blue. Updating the paint color in both rooms made a huge difference. I knew I’d love having a “clean slate” — but I had no idea how much Delicate White would change how cozy and well-lit each room could be.
A few weeks ago, I shared some guest bedroom inspiration — because I have had a vision for the guest bedroom for the longest time and have been waiting [for 3 years] to execute it! To recap, we have:
Here is our progress so far!
I really love these nightstands from Wayfair, because they are so classic! (I did replace the original silver nightstand knobs with these knobs from Magnolia!) I styled the nightstand on the right with a lamp, faux plant, gold ampersand paperweight, and a journal. I love how everything came together, and of course, I’ll probably have fun styling this nightstand forever. (Decorating sometimes seems like a commitment!)
I hung the floating shelf above my desk and picked up some more faux plants, a frame, and a candle to style the shelf. I’m not sure what photo I’ll put in the frame just yet; I want a brighter, white photo (Maybe the one I took of the Great Wheel in Seattle) — but I’d also love to use a more recent photo of Ben and I, too!
Below the floating shelf is a board with different prints and quotes pinned on — including a post card I bought from Magnolia Market last year! I love inspirational quotes — especially because I work from home and need all the motivation I can get — so I knew I wanted to keep this board near my desk, no matter how the room came together.
The top of my desk is always a work in progress, because I don’t always need to use everything that’s on my desk… I’m working on decluttering and will have to find a good spot for the stationery and journals I don’t use every day.
For the nightstand on the left, I picked up some really fun guest bedroom “necessities.” On the left nightstand, closest to the rest of our house, there is aromatherapy pillow spray (similar here), a sound machine for white noise, and an essential oil diffuser (similar here). I was really excited to pick up these items, because I want our guest bedroom to be as cozy as can be.
So, what’s left?
In a few weeks, we’re having our baseboards, trim, and closet door replaced with all white wood. In the meanwhile, we’ll be on the lookout for some kind of painting or print or wall hanging to finish the room with! After that, I’ll probably be ready to say the room is complete.
Finally, what’s so awesome is, now that our guest bedroom actually feels like a room in our condo, our condo actually feels more spacious; we’re not just spending time in the living room anymore, we’re spending it in the guest bedroom / my office, too. I love how decorating can make a really small space seem more open and more homey all at once.
