My husband Ben and I live in Wisconsin (Soon Minnesota!) and try our best to live happily, healthfully, and adventurously — so I hope you'll follow along!

Becoming vegan is a really personal decision. Food is a really personal thing; we share meals with friends and family, and we use food as a means to feel connected.  Food is something we choose for ourselves — every day.

I decided to be vegan for a variety of reasons (Ten common reasons to be vegan can be found here!) each of which I’m super excited to share with you today!  Once again, I understand how personal food can be, and while my goal is not to convince you to be vegan, I do hope you’ll come away with a fresh perspective or having learned something new.

Why I Decided to Be Vegan

  1. Health: Scientifically speaking, an all-natural, plant-based diet can provide serious nutritional value. When Ben and I got married, we promised one another we’d live to be 120 years old and travel the world hand in hand.  Although I can’t control the future, I can control how I eat and be sure the food I am consuming is more helpful than harmful. 2. Happiness: Since becoming vegan, I’ve experienced greater peace of mind. Not only am I proud of the food I’m consuming, but I also feel the benefits of everything I’m consuming.  My mind is clearer, my skin is brighter, and I feel more confidence. Every whole food was created with a unique purpose — and knowing how beneficial each food can be is really exciting.
  3. Kindness: The factory farming system is shocking and heartbreaking. Throughout the past few years, the factory farming process has been explored and discussed — not only in the United States, but all over the world. This video provides an exploration of the factory farming system in Australia. (Warning: It is a graphic video, so please only view if you’re prepared to see how animals suffer.) At the end of the day, my blog is all about becoming your best self  — and I’m so excited to have discovered how being vegan has changed my life for the better. Maybe you’ll find that being vegan is great for you, too! So, what was it really like to make the decision?

  1. Much, much, much easier than I believed it would be! The truth is, Ben and I were visiting our family for 10 days, and when we arrived, I said, “I think I’ll try being vegan — starting now!” And I haven’t looked back.
  2. Much, much, much more fun than I believed it would be. Since choosing to go vegan, I’ve tried lots of new recipes and foods I had never tried before. There are so many amazing and delicious fruits and vegetables in the world.
  3. So rewarding! I used to be a super emotional eater; for so long, so many foods and meals have been connected to an emotion. After choosing to go vegan, I see food as a way to be nourished, to be energized, and to be able to make the most of each day I’ve been blessed with.

I know being vegan won’t always be easy (For instance, I live in the cheese capital of the US!) but I know it will be super beneficial for my long-term health and wellness. Thank you for reading along and following along with my journey!
