Dear Benjamin,

Today is your birthday! We’ve been celebrating birthdays together since we were 20 years old — which is crazy — and we’ll be celebrating until we’re at least 120!  Today, I wanted to write you a letter to tell you how special you are — and why I’m so honored to celebrate your birthday with you:

You’re my best friend in the whole world. Tomorrow, we’ll be celebrating our 7th anniversary, and with each passing year, I am pleasantly surprised to learn more about you. Above all, you’re my friend — and I know our friendship will carry us through all of life’s ups and downs.

You’re serious about fun. Whether we play catch in Target and accidentally knock everything over, or we dance around the kitchen for no reason, I always have fun when I’m with you. Even though I tease you about being old, your spontaneity will definitely keep us young.

You’re always smiling. Your love of life has been and always will be an inspiration to me.  You love every day wholeheartedly. You’re committed to helping people feel encouraged and welcomed — which is something the world is very much in need of.

You’re a really excellent teacher.  This year, I’ve been lucky enough to visit you in your classroom.  I’m so proud of you, because you are a shining light, and you make a difference for so many people.

You’re my rock. One evening — of way too many — I was crying to you about my car accident, and I said to you, “I’ll never be the same again.” Without hesitation, you replied, “You’re right… you’re going to be even better!” Every day, you remind me to be kind to myself — because you are so loving, kind, and encouraging, every day.

You’re always learning. Your love of podcasts is not only really cute, but it is also one way you love learning and growing. I know your passion for learning will bring us all over the world to see, do, and learn everything we can.

I love you with all my heart, and I am so excited to celebrate your special day! I hope you feel so special and loved today!
