Over the past several weeks, we’ve weighed the pros and cons of going on a babymoon — a vacation before welcoming our baby! On one hand, welcoming a new baby can be expensive, so we weren’t sure we wanted to add travel on top of our new expenses.
On the other hand, a few of the pregnancy books we’ve been reading mentioned how special it can be to have one “final” trip away with just us two. After much deliberation, after gaining some perspective, and after much Expedia-ing, we decided to book a babymoon! So, where are we heading?
Spring Babymoon in Miami, Florida
How We Decided on Miami, Florida for Our Babymoon
Ben and I are both extreme planners who tend to do a lot of reading before making a decision about anything — which is both a blessing and a curse! When it came to deciding whether to go on a babymoon and then where to go for our babymoon, we weighed a variety of options over the course of several weeks. Here’s how we decided on Miami, Florida for our babymoon:
- We wanted to travel to a place neither of us have been — or a place where neither of us have been together.
- We wanted to travel to someplace warm with a beach. Winter in Minnesota is serious business, and knowing we’d be traveling in February or March, we wanted to travel someplace where we could better guarantee warm and sunny weather.
- We wanted to go somewhere walkable — somewhere we could simply book a hotel and walk to coffee shops, restaurants, and the beach.
With all of the above in mind, we landed on a spring babymoon in Miami, Florida!
Where We’re Staying
We chose to stay at The Betsy Hotel in South Beach, Miami. A client of ours kindly shared about how she and her husband spend every winter in Miami; she suggested South Beach above all, because South Beach is extremely walkable — and walking from our hotel to coffee shops, restaurants, and the beach would be easy to do.
When Ben and I travel, we love staying in walkable locations. We decided on The Betsy Hotel in South Beach, because of its spa, pools, and close proximity to coffee shops, restaurants, and the beach.
Coffee Shops in Miami, Florida
Before traveling to a new place, I love picking a few places I’d like to try — whether because they look fun or unique, or because they have good reviews. A few coffee shops I’d like to try in Miami are: Bebito’s Cafe, Mango Tree, and Crema.
Restaurants with Vegan Options in Miami, Florida
Because I follow a plant-based vegan diet, I usually map out where I’m going to eat, and even sometimes what I’m going to order. A few restaurants with vegan options I’d like to try are: Full Bloom Vegan, PLANTA, and Plant Theory.
Things to Do on a Miami, Florida Babymoon
In case we’d like to do more than go to the beach (I’m honestly not sure, because from here in Minnesota, a sunny beach sounds really amazing!) I wanted to pick a few more places to see or experience while we’re in Miami: Lincoln Road — A walkable shopping and dining area, Time Out Market Miami — A dining marketplace, Miami Beach Botanical Garden — Because Ben and I are proud “plant parents” who love nature, and Española Way — A really quaint, walkable shopping and dining area.
When planning our spring babymoon to Miami, we explored so many different places and options. Overall, I’m really looking forward to our trip to Miami, and I am hopeful it’ll be the perfect spring (Which really feels like winter here in Minnesota) getaway for us. While we’re away, we’re hoping to talk through our plans and hopes for parenthood — which I think will be really special and fun.
