This summer, Ben and I tried to pay extra attention to all of the special events and festivals taking place in the Twin Cities. Last summer was all about moving in, getting settled, and getting acclimated to our new city — but this summer, we really wanted to find more local events to try! That’s what led us to try the Afton Apple Orchard Flower Festival!

About the Flower Festival
The festival happens over the course of a few weekends in late summer. With acres and acres of sunflower fields and zinnia fields, visitors can walk around the fields, pick their own flowers, or purchase pre-made bouquets of flowers.
The Afton Apple Orchard has a general store with gourmet foods, dips, sauces, and more — and the grounds have different areas where children can play or areas where visitors can simply walk around!
Walking throughout the flower fields was really fun. On the day we attended, the weather was so sunny, and the fields were so quiet we could hear the buzzing of the bees. There were a couple of really cute photo spots, too.
There weren’t very many shady spots in the field, so we took occasional breaks on benches under the trees beyond the field.

I’m so excited to continue exploring different local events in Minnesota. Since moving here last year, I have really loved visiting different parks, spending time outside, and just enjoying the scenery. There are so many beautiful parks and places to hike in Minnesota, and I’m really grateful for the experiences we’ve had and memories we’ve made this summer.
