Those who see me every day — my husband and BFF Andra — are definitely used to seeing me wear my hair in a fishtail braid. Not only is it a super easy hairstyle, but it is also one that can be perfectly imperfect! I am all about having a go-to hairstyle that looks OK while being messy!
So, today, I’ve decided to share a How-To for my favorite hairstyle: The Fishtail Braid.
How to Do a Fishtail Braid
Step 1: Secure your hair with a clear elastic. I usually secure it off to the side, because I wear my braid over my shoulder.
Step 2: Divide your ponytail into two equal sections.
Step 3: Take a small piece of hair from one section, and pass it to the other section. The fishtail braid works best if you take the small piece of hair from the outer area of each section. (Shown Below)
Step 4: Repeat the process — passing one small piece of hair from one section to the other. (Shown Below)
Step 5: Repeat the process, moving a small strand from one section to the other, alternating between each section — left section to right section and right section to left section. (Shown Below)
Step 6: Secure the bottom of the fishtail braid with another clear elastic.
Step 7: Cut the first clear elastic with a pair of scissors, removing it from your hair at the top of your fishtail braid.
Step 8: Using your fingers, pull apart the braid, giving it a bit of texture!
Step 9: Voila! You have a perfectly messy — and super easy fishtail braid.
